BANDUNG – The International Communication Conference entitled MAC’16 (Media at Crossroads) which was recently held by Fikom Unpad, was not only attended by lecturers or Communication practitioners, but also by students of Fikom Unpad. What is interesting, not only students of Postgraduate and Doctoral programs, but also undergraduate students and even D3 students in the Faculty of Communication Sciences Unpad.
For example, in the first session of panel seven there was Indah Afif Khairunnisa. This student of the Journalism Study Program class of 2011 submitted a research paper entitled Politically Intertwined: Mainstream Media and (Counter) Terror Agendas. Indah collaborated with the Dean of Fikom Unpad Dr. Dadang Rahmat Hidayat and journalism lecturer Nunik Maharani Hartoyo.In the panel moderated by Syauqy Lukman, there were also other Fikom students, Irma Garnesia.
Irma was also a delegation from the Faculty of Communication Sciences Unpad in the 2016 Fall School which was held at the University of Erfurt, Germany, last October. Irma presented her research entitled The Effects of Online Privacy Management Through Line Messenger Towards High School Student’s Self-Actualization. Irma conducted her research with Dr. Asep Suryana and Dr. Slamet Mulyana.
In addition, in the second session of panel four moderated by Dr. Eni Maryani there was Margaretha Sinaga from the Communication Management Study Program with a research entitled The Strategy of Using Facebook by Teman Ahok to Collect One Million Jakartan ID Cards. This 2012 class student conducted research with the Head of Communication Science Study Program Dr. Purwanti Hadisiwi and the Secretary of the Diploma Kismiyati El Karimah, MSi.
The student who is familiarly called Retha explains why and how Facebook can be used as a tool to create social movements. According to him, the reason Facebook is used, one of which is because it does not cost too much and can distribute information for free. Then, he added that Facebook is a strategic media to use in creating social movements.
